Lago Petén Itzá Guatemala

Lake Petén Itzá is a 99km2 lake in northern Guatemala. Much of the land around it is covered in tropical rainforest. Normally, tourists pass through the lake area on their way to visit the archaeological site of Tikal. It is a special place where you can swim and take walks along its wooded shores. Around the lake you will find various towns that you cannot miss such as Flores, a town south of the lake with colonial buildings and cobbled streets; El Remate is a small idyllic town that has a great view of the lake and is less populated than Flores for example. Near the Remate we find the Cerro Cahuí Biotope, perfect for an enriching walk through the wildlife of Guatemala.
